What will your reward be? Psalm 18: 20–24 (CSB)

Psalm 18: 20–24 (CSB) - “20 The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; he repaid me according to the cleanness of my hands. 21 For I have kept the ways of the Lord and have not turned from my God to wickedness. 22 Indeed, I let all his ordinances guide me and have not disregarded his statutes. 23 I was blameless toward him and kept myself from my iniquity. 24 So the Lord repaid me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.”

What will your reward be?

What a thought-provoking question to consider! What will your reward be? Will it be big or small? Fancy or simple? Grand or understated? You may even wonder if you would qualify for a reward at all. I hope that you will, just as I do. As believers in Christ Jesus, we understand that our righteousness to God is like filthy rags, as it says in Isaiah 64:6. However, we can take solace in the fact that Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him as righteousness, as stated in Genesis 15:6. Our faith in Jesus grants us His righteousness, as mentioned in Romans 3:22. It is truly reassuring to know that we will receive an award based on the finished work of Christ on the cross, in our place, as revealed in Revelation 22:12. As believers, it is our duty to live a life worthy of the calling we have received, as Ephesians 4:1 reminds us. We strive to walk uprightly and represent Christ not only with our words but also through our daily actions. By doing what is right, even when it is difficult, and by confessing our sins to cleanse ourselves when we stumble, we keep ourselves clean. Faith in God promises to be an award for us, as Hebrews 11:6 declares. Each morning we awake, we are rewarded with another chance to live according to our faith. Every breath we take is a reward, reminding us to strive to be better and draw closer to Him in our devotions and acts of service to others. The final reward that awaits us is when we enter into His eternal joy. This is the reward that I, too, am living for. It is a reward that is obtained through faith in the Son of God, who gave Himself up for us. Our reward is not based on our own efforts or righteousness but on the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ. It is through our faith in Him that we receive the ultimate reward of eternal joy in His presence. Don’t you want this reward? It can be yours if you will simply ask Jesus for it by faith.
